About MCC
The Montreal Community Center
As a result of long term deliberation, the Muslim Community Center project was finally launched. $2.1M Canadian dollars were raised by the main donors for the purchase of a Downtown Montreal historic building that can serve as a much-needed Mosque and Community Center to secure the Muslim and other communities.
This center will be a showcase for the true moderate face of Muslims in the City. It will also provide a service to the community in Montreal. Although there are many Mosques in and around Montreal, none exists in the Downtown core.
The center will be run by the Muslim Association of Canada, and the management of the center observes all Canadian and Quebec regulations of good management, transparency, accountability, and continuous reporting. In addition, MCC implements the Islamic model of leadership and sustainable management. All operations would be indirectly overseen in order to ensure continuous good quality of services offered with high level of enthusiasm and motivation.
The project leadership is bringing several new innovations to the Muslim community:
- A rare cooperation between several Muslim associations to realize the project. The board of directors features leaders from two big charitable family foundations, one Islamic charitable foundation, two Muslim Students associations, Muslim professionals, and business people.
- An innovative model for the governance of the association. The governance model depends on a board of directors, a community council, and an advanced membership structure.
- A wealth of expertise within the directors of the associations: Muslim scholars, prominent business people, philanthropic leaders, academians, youth activists, and community leaders.
- A financial independence for the center and its activities. 40% of the acquired space would be allocated for commercial activities to raise enough funds to cover all the costs of the building.
